Genie History

Genie Industries was founded in 1966, when it produced the first “Genie Hoist”. The founder, Bud Bushnell, bought the rights to a lift that used compressed air to operate a material lift. The name “Genie” came from the seeming “magic in the bottle” that customers used to describe how the lift operated. Previously, aerial lifts could only operate with gasoline, diesel engines, or the use of hydraulic fluids. The use of these lifts indoors has increased the number of electric powered aerial lifts. As the demand for work lift and platforms increased, Genie began to expand into other markets and increase operations. Now they have products such as telehandlers, man-lifts, stick booms, light towers, articulated booms, trailer mounted booms, scissor lifts, and vertical mast lifts.

In 2002, Genie was sold to Terex Corporation, a company which held similar values. Terex Corporation specializes in acquiring and diversifying with materials handling and industrial equipment companies. After the sale, Genie’s brand was so strong, and Genie had such a good reputation that it was allowed to keep it’s name. Now, Genie is referred to as “Genie, A Terex Brand.” Genie is committed to improving quality, listening to customers, reducing waste, and providing outstanding support.

Genie equipment is used globally in a variety of industries. Their versatile boom lifts are the right choice for many jobsites, facilities, and applications. In the aviation industry Genie has equipment to help with high-reach maintenance work as well as with moving heavy cargo. In the construction industry Genie has models for indoors, outside, and for nearly every phase of construction. Their Aerial Lift or Aerial Work Platform (AWP) are used in hard to reach or inaccessible spots. Genie pioneered booms and equipment designed for the entertainment industry - for studios, special events, and locations. Their light towers are widely used in this industry. Genie also has equipment for government and military uses, particularly their highly specialized aerial products. In the industrial sector, Genie products can be used in applications from maintenance to manufacturing. Genie has a global presence, serving customers in over 72 countries.

Type of Genie Lifts

Genie Boom Lift - A boom is lift, also known as a “cherry picker” uses hydraulic arms attached to a mounted carrier platform to lift an operator to an otherwise inaccessible work area. Genie Boom lifts can be used to repair electrical lines, clean windows of skyscrapers, or prune trees. They can be transported in a flat bed pick up, or towed behind a truck. They also may have a built-in moving platform. At the end of the hydraulic “boom” arm, a bucket is usually attached where someone can stand. They can work in the bucket by controlling the lateral and vertical movements with a joystick or control mechanism, which adjusts the hydraulic arms.

Genie Scissor Lift - A Genie scissor lift uses a scissor mechanism to lift the operator’s platform vertically. It cannot move horizontally. Usually, if you need a larger load capacity or large working space, a scissor lift is ideal. They are usually used for jobs that are not as high. The scissor lift is raised when a “pantograph system,” or criss-cross support system, is unfolded, usually powered electrically. The downward motion of the “pantograph system” can be hydraulic, mechanical, or mechanical. Depending on the lift, the downward motion may be powered by the release of compressed air, hydraulic fluid, or it may be electrical. Scissor lifts are considered to be very safe and risk-free due to their design.

Genie Telehandler - A telehandler, also known as a “telescopic handler” is a piece of equipment that also functions as a vehicle. It could be considered a very versatile and strong forklift, with a hydraulic boom allowing extensions forward as well as vertically. Telehandlers are more commonly used in the construction and agricultural industries. There are many telehandler attachments, such as forks, carriages, rotate carriages, sideshift carriages, truss booms, grapple buckets, and more. We have all the Genie telehandler parts you need, as well as Genie attachments.
